I started requesting an online CAR INSURANCE quote from PROGRESSIVE.COM....but?
They want to collect personal information from consumer reporting agencies, such as driving record, claims, and credit history reports. Is it safe for me to fill out the online form and give Progressive.com (Progressive Direct) the OK it needs in order to collect this information to give me a quote, or is this a possible Phishing expedition that I might regret later on? Thanks My credit history is excellent, as is my driving record clean of any tickets or accidents. I was just concerned about the sharing of my personal info where I might start being contacted by other companies wanting to sell me something. Appreciate everyone's input.

- Yes, Progressive is a reputable company.
- they rate your credit , low scores equal higher rates for insurance pity isn't it ,good credit equals low rates !! its up to you if you want to give out this on line ,sights are supposed to be secure !!
- While you're right to be concerned the fact is that Progressive is a huge company, hardly a fly-by-night operation. If they were to misuse the information you could sue the snot out of them. If you were to call them the same information would be requested. If you were to go into an Progressive office, the same information would be requested. As long as you're sure you're really at the real Progressive website, you'll be fine.
- Progressive's site is secure so you can feel safe about putting your info on there. However, I would encourage you to visit a local agent to get your quotes. Most independant agents have access to multiple companies, including Progressive. You will only have to give your information once and the agent will take care of it from there. Also, you will have the value of an insurance professional helping you determine which coverages and limits best suit your needs.
- Any insurance company you apply to wants to see driving record and credit report. That is standard for the industry. Progressive is just being up front about it, and asking your permission to do so.
- They can give you a "ballpark" quote without all the personal information. However if you want a real quote, you'll have to provide the information since your rate will be based on that information. Read their privacy policy, but I'm sure it says that they don't share your personal information.
- Progressive has been around a long time and your information will be secure. However, they may not have the best reputation. It's a good idea to check car insurance comparisons and reviews of the different companies. http://insurancetipsguide.com/
