car insurance?

I got a speeding ticket last year... and on top of that a ticket for not having registration or proof of insurance with me. The car WAS registered under me and I DID have insurance at the time... I just don't remember from who, since it's been a while. I have also, since, sold the car. So I'm wondering... is there any way to figure out who I was insured with last year and obtain the proof to mail to the judge? AND if there's any other way to show them the car was registered on my name during the time I was pulled over for speeding? If I show proof the fine goes down significantly, and I really need that fine reduction :I because i am very poor. please help! advice is greatly appreciated.

2. You will have to go through your papers and find a copy of the policy or bill. You can also look at your bank records or your check registers to see what company you paid to insure you. Either way, you might have to go back more than a year.
3. how can you not remember who your insuance was with? unless if you changed insurance carriers a billion times then you should know! Maybe you did not really have insurance and are hoping for a miracle here? As far as the registration goes get an abstract from the dmv but even if the car was registered while having insurance and if you allowed it to lapse then the registration will do you no good in court.
4. Your insurance card has your Insurance company name and to my knowledge the particular Insurance company seller's name. Don't worry about him just call your insurance company and have them re-issue proof of insurance. There is a second way to do this. Go to your local auto license office and ask them to trace your insurance company. They have a record of that because you must have valid car insurance to operate a car an any given state. Good Luck!
5. And what, you didn't go to court and now a year has gone by? Well, the next time you are stopped and the warrant for your arrest comes up and you go to jail and your car is impounded, I'm sure you can explain it to the judge at that time. You find out who is doing your insurance by looking at the card you are required to carry in the car, it's all on there. Or you open your check register and look for entries to names like "Allstate" or "Progressive" or look at your canceled checks for "Car Insurance" in the memo. Or you come here in the hopes that someone magically knows and can tell you.
6. No doubt the easiest way to get insurance quotes is on the web.
