  1. You have to study and pass an insurance exam and then apply to one of the above mentioned companies to get an insurance agency and then rent office space and buy computers, printers, furniture, phone lines etc to get set up. Your welcome.
  2. The actual owner doesn't really need much schooling other than a basis in business to understand what is going on...However, to operate a company, a lot of schooling in involved for the various parts. -Almost every since state requires you to have two licenses...one to sell and underwrite policies within the state and one to work claims within the state. Some states require a test be passed, others just require a fee be paid. -You also need underwriters to establish the policies and pricing plans. These are trained actuaries, who attend years of schooling. -You will need someone who can manage your funds, either an MBA, CPA or a CFA (probably all three). You will also need a risk manager and fianancial adviser, who oversee the other branches. -You will need lawyers, with JDs, who can defend your company and can defend your insureds if they are sued. They will also write the contracts and oversee large claims. -Then there are claims and underwriting related degrees, such as CPCUs, AICs and Risk Management Granted, while you as an owner don't need a lot behind you, the people in the company do. And without at least some experience and an advanced degree, are these people going to respect you and will people want to insure in your company? Probably not. Most of the CEOs have at least two of the above degrees or certifications.
