Auto and Car Insurance

Where is the most cost effective auto insurance for male under 21?

I have been getting quotes online from a few places geico, esurance, and others and they are VERY expensive around 315-400 a month plus around $1000 down. I have no accidents or tickets in the 3.5 years I've been driving. why is my insurance so expensive? PLEASE HELP!!! BTW I'm 19 years old.

  1. People under the age of 25 will pay higher insurance premiums. Also it will depend on your location, the type of car you have, your driving record, and in some cases they will check your credit score. I've never heard of having to put a down payment on an auto insurance though. Is there anyway you can insure your car under your parents' name? It's usually a lot cheaper that way.
  2. Statistically, unmarried young males are the highest insurance risk. And the carriers charge accordingly. If you can add your car to your parent's policy, do that. Then you can take advantage of their multi-line/multi-car discounts. If you have been an honor roll student, maintain your grades, and that will give you (usually) another discount. If you have been driving for 3 years, you will be eligible for a good -driver discount, providing you do not have points on your record. Some insurance companies offer discounts for certain professions. Check to see if yours does. Once you hit 25, or if you get married, your insurance does usually go down. Until then, you just have to suck it up.
  3. It's expensive because you are 19. The best insurance for you will be the one that best meets your needs at the best price. To find out what that would be be, find an agent that is not connected to just one company, find an independent agent, give him your needs and information, discuss what coverage would be best for you, and let him search his data base to find the best for you. The side benefit will be you will have someone local to help if you need it rather than a web page or 800 number. Also, see about being added to your parents policy.
  4. After reading some of the answers it takes me back to when our son was under the age of 25, we carried him on our insurance but he was restricted to drive only the older car and not the newer one. He paid us the difference in the rate increase and everything was just fine. he had no accidents or tickets. Check with your parents and their insurance company to see what the increase will be. There is nothing like going to an insurance agency and talking face to face.
