  1. Just give the letter to your insurance company and they will handle it or advise you what to do.
  2. Sometimes "parent" insurance companies will handle claims for their affiliated companies. You were the claimant when you got your car fixed. If you think its something else, call your insurance. The other cars involved may be trying the either pay you money or try to get you to pay for damage to their car. IE, if you hit somebody, and then you got rear ended, the insurance company for the driver that rear ended you will pay for the damage caused by their driver.
  3. Check with your insurance company. Is it possible they found the driver of the car that hit you?
  4. You, as the claimant, means one of the other parties(if not all), reported the loss to their own insurance company. One of these companies was AIG. They have a claim set up for you under one of the other party's liability coverage. The letter should indicate who the "insured" or "policyholder" is. Give the company a call if you want to, but there is no need. If they do not hear from you within 30 days, they will just close their file. I am surprised it took so long to create a file. Perhaps the person liable for the loss was located. If you have any out of pocket expenses that your own carrier did not cover, they may offer to reimburse you if their insured was legally liable for your damages.
  5. Give the letter to your insurnce agent. He/she will know how to proceed with it.
