what is your opinion of progressive auto insurance ?

1. I got a quote from them the last time I shopped insurance rates, and got a much lower rate from AIG through an insurance broker. One thing about brokers who handle a lot of companies, they can shop rates too. Also, I was rear-ended while insured and AIG did a great job for me in a no-fault state.
2. if you end up not liking them you cannot cancel, they claim that since you signed up for them they are required by law to provide insurance for you for 6months. don't believe their BS.
3. i have had my policy with them and I hated them. they messed my policy up completely. i have shops in my area that refuse to do claims for them as they have a hard getting them to pay for the needed repairs. BIG RED FLAG! call a local independent agent to get some quotes
4. They blow, especially their claims department. Also, if you are in an accident and you call just to ask a question, they will force open a claim whether you want them to or not and it will be on your record, thus driving up your rates.
