Auto insurance?
This question is in continuation of my previous question. As everybody agreed that after 3 years of an accident, that accident doesn't affect your insurance. I had an accident more than 3 years ago. I didn't have insurance during that period, now I am filling an application for a quote on insurance and there is a question in it that whether I had any accident during last 6 years. Should I mention the accident or not. whether insurance company will know in any case that I had an accident?

- Duh...did you HAVE an accident within the last six years or are you going to falsify your application? This could lead to grounds of denial if you have a loss, dude.
- Not true, the whole "three year" rule. Depending on where you live, it can affect your rates for up to ten years. In most states (but not all!!) a SURCHARGE will only stay on your policy for three years, but you might not get your "accident free discount" until you have been clear for five years. Yes, the insurance company will know about the accident, because they will pull a "CLUE" report - a third party report of all accidents. The report usually goes back up to 10 years, so even if the accident is too old to surcharge, they will "know" about it.
- To be fair, your first question didn't delve into all this stuff you want to know now. I can't advocate misrepresenting information on an insurance application, as you would be if you said you had no accidents. When people apply for insurance, they can say no to everything and lie, lie, lie, but if you had an accident and there was a report of it to the insurance company involved (which would mean you had a claim filed and a payout was made) then it will show up on the CLUE report, and your carrier will find out anyway. Also, if you got a ticket for the accident, they will find that too, so even if there was no payout, they may be able to tell from your ticket that you had an accident. So if you're in a situation where your lie will be uncovered then you should not even bother to conceal the information.
