Auto and Car Insurance

Car insurance?

Ok, "cheap me" has been trying to find a second hand car (Opel corsa). Found one I might like at about 29k with a mileage of 167k on Carfind. Tried to get an eQuote from "First for women" - (I'm still waiting). Anyone could suggest any other reasonable insurance companies I could try? Or do any of you know how much I would be paying for insurance, just an estimate. Would also love some help with any other cars (preferably Opel corsa) at reasonable rates. Looking between 20-35k and no more than R800p/m. If anyone has info please contact me by email. Thank you PS: I'm in Johannesburg (Northen Suburbs)

  1. I suggest Hollards pay as you drive. Ive also got a new car now and i had to get insurance before i could take it. Hippo.co.za said i was too young to drive the car (im 24), so i decided to check out Hollard. Not a bad deal at all! Im not gonna say specifically what i pay but if you watch the First for Woman tv ad, i pay less than the 40 year old male! AND it comes with a Skytrax tracking system so i can check whats going on with my car on the net. And the customer service from both companies was good. Good luck!
  2. Good luck finding an insurance company willing to insure you for an amount lower than the car payment (R800). I bought my car 18 months ago, and I couldn't get an insurance quote for below R700.00 in my own name. First for women: R930.00 p.m. Outsurance: R870.00 p.m. Budget: R670 p.m. (cheapest by far) There were other quotes aswell, but I can't remember the specifics - I remember one quote that came in at R420.00, but that didn't include third party cover. Unfortunately insurance is sky high if you're under 25 years old. As an alternative I bought and insured my car on my father's name, as a result I only pay R280.00 p.m for insurance at Santam, but I doubt I would have gotten anything remotely close to that amount. P.S. I had a clear track record when I bought my car, no accidents and the quotes was still huge.
  3. Think of "Balance of Third Party", Fire and Theft Insurance. these premiums are materially cheaper. It provides you with cover for damage to the other party's vehicle in the event of an accident, and for your vehicle in the event of loss by theft, or fire. However, no cover is provided for repairs to your own vehicle in the event of an accident. Some people feel this level of cover is adequate because if you have an accident which is caused by a third party, you can claim against that third party's insurance. In practice, it is very difficult to make such a claim, and it usually requires a civil court action to get satisfaction. The insurance company and the finance house (If you did not buy cash) will not be to keen on pursuing such an action on your behalf, so you will end up being liable for the outstanding finance contract. I prever SA eagle, i know they have no cr.p when you actually need them. I have used dial direct before without much hassels. try this site. http://www.premiumsearch.co.za/dial-direct.htm at 17% interest for 60 months you can go up to R32,000. also try autotrader http://www.autotrader.co.za/CARS/search/search-page.jsp One other piece of advice, make sure you get a roadworthy certificate from a reputable Testing Station. Make sure the car went to that testing Station, not only the papers.... good luck
