Produce a basic insurance billing information collection tool and draft a basic policy regarding patient billing. Include protocols for Medicare insurance and private insurance. Can someone PLEASE give me some ideas on how to to do this? I have the website but yet it is still confusing to me. Here is the website. The AMA council approved Health Insurance Claim form can be accessed for reference from the following website: http://www.cms.hhs.gov/providers/edi/cms1500.pdf

- Well, I can't speak specifically in terms of medical offices because I am a dentist. So I will tell you how it's done at my office. The tools we use to collect insurance billing information are: 1. We utilize a book of billable dental procedure codes so that we can file insurance claims properly. 2. We subscribe to a special software that keeps track of insurance benefit plans by employer. 3. Once we have basic insurance information we request specific benefit coverage of the policy by either calling the insurance company directly, faxing them, or online. I do not deal with medicare so you will need to research that on your own. As far as patient billing goes our policy is simple. Payment is due at time of service. If patients can't afford to pay their portion we accept mastercard and visa. I also offer 3rd party financing with a company called Care Credit. If we have to send a bill the patient has 30 days to pay the balance and if it is not paid within 90 days a late fee is assessed and their delinquent accounts are reported directly to all 3 credit bureaus. Hope this helps.
