Auto Insurance?

I'm 16 and my family is going to be getting another car soon that I will be driving. We have metlife auto insurance, and I wanted to know if they would have to add extra coverage for me (a 16 year old male) or would their policy cover me under an umbrella? They have full coverage. I'm kind of confused about how exactly it works. I just checked the Metlife website again and I found a part where it says that all family members are covered under the insurance. But that you have to notify them when a new driver is driving the car. So if we notify them how much would the insurance go up? (If at all) What would happen if we never notified them and I got into an accident?

1. Any member of a family who turns 16 , even if they don't have a license are required to report this to your agent, as for the insurance co. feels that there is a possibilty that you may be driving a vehicle. Your parents coverage will increase about 30% automaticly. It's just the way it is ! Nothing can be done about it ! You can try to find a better agent, but good luck ! You will be listed as a driver once you get a valid license. Your grades will play an important part in the rates. So do good in school !!! Good luck !!
2. if there are 3 drivers and 2 cars you would be listed as an occasional driver. If there are 3 drivers and 3 cars you would be listed as a principal driver. Your parents are going to have an increase no matter what., in this case you will be rated on the most expensive vehicle to insure..unless you are restricted from it (meaning you cant drive it at all ever)
3. You have to added as an additional driver and it does affect the policy greatly. New drivers have the highest premiums for the first 3 years of driving. As for not be added & driving....your parents are taking a great risk if your in an accident and someone's hurt. Trust me, you don't want to get into that scenario.
