Direct line?
Hi, as you all probably know allready about 17 days ago i smashed my car into the back of a uninsured mazda (polish driver, no licsense no insurance). the crash was on the sunday 13th. On the 17th they took the car away to a garage. two weeks later i have not heard anything from direct line or the garage. All i want to know is wether they are writing my car off or fixing it. its getting stupid now. has anyone else had problems with direct line?

- Why aren't you asking direct line instead of us? Ive never had a problem with them.
- My husband had a crash a few years ago and they made us take his car to a Dixon Car Clinic in Lincoln, when there was one only 2 miles away from us (Lincoln was about an hours drive). They kept his car for 6 weeks and never let us know what was going to happen to it. We thought it should have been written off but it wasn't. Instead, they carried out repairs worth approx £3k when the car was only just worth more than that. Direct Line did not provide a courtesy car, we had to hire a car and then claim so much back from them on the insurance. Very poor service from them and obviously he didn't renew with them the following year. Unfortunately, we realised why they are so cheap-because they are pretty crap if you need to make a claim. I suppose like all insurances, you only realise the quality of cover when you do have to claim. We pay more now with a different provider but hopefully this will mean we get better service in the long run.
- I take it you are insured fully comp which means that they will have to pay out either for repairs or write off value. They will thus drag their feet and delay delay delay because obviuosly the longer they can hang on to the cash ,the better it is for them. They will also dictate who repairs vehicle insisting that it only goes to the body shops that have done a deal with them ie usually cheaper and to an agreed standard but not always perhaps the best or the most convenient to the customer. Does this mean Direct Line are no good? Well, it keeps premiums down and all the cheaper companies do the same..Some do it better than others and each case is different. Its the inconvenience you suffer for a cut orice deal.... You only get what you pay for. So ring the garage,, ring Direct line,,ask about a courtesy car... if you dont ask,you wont get. And next time look where your going... Good luck Source...40 years in the motor trade
