Auto and Car Insurance

Insurance question?

I have two policies with Direct Line as you get a discount for insuring your second car with them. My husband is down as a named driver on both of them as he also earns no claims bonus in his own right. In April 2007 he had an accident at work in a work vehicle, neither of our cars were involved. It wasn't his fault and he claimed off the third party's insurance for a back injury he sustained. The claim has now been settled but I have just received my renewal for one of my cars and I was wondering if I should have reported this to them or not. I don't want to have to pay anything extra but then again if I need to claim I don't want the worry of them finding out I didn't tell them and my insurance being void. Do I have to tell them or not?

  1. Yes, any accidents or claims should be disclosed, no matter who's fault or policy it was on.
  2. don't tell anyone anything they don't NEED to know....My mom [rest her soul] once told the DMV on her renewal she was diabetic...they suspended her lic.. she had to go to a doctor for a letter and her insurance went up...keep your mouth shut..
  3. Depends of the questions asked. Normally it's "have you had any claims in the last x years?" It's asking about your policy not anyone else's
  4. you do not have to tell them. it didn't involve a vehicle they cover, so it's none of their business. the only time you would have to report it to them is if your husband had been ticketed and faulted because that affects his driver's license
  5. Yes you should tell them - it shouldn't make much difference as it is a non-fault incident.
