Can I insure my car in California if it is registered in Oklahoma?
I currently have insurance in Oklahoma. My permanent address is in Oklahoma but I am stationed in California and California doesn't require military personnel to register their vehicles there.

- Insure your car in Oklahoma and have proof of insurance given your active duty military status.
- It should be cheaper to insure the car in Oklahoma then California. In most states the insurance and plates must match.
- I was going to answer of course you have to register and insure in California, but then noticed you mentioned military. California allows you to maintain your home registration and insurance. So you would renew your insurance in Oklahoma, but I believe you need a confirmation lof status letter of some kind from California DVL. I had clients from Manitoba that renewed their Manitoba registration and insurance while stationed in California, but they had to have a mailing address in Manitoba to satisfy the requirements of both California DMV and Manitoba DVL.
