What do I need to register my vehicle for a template until I can get stickers for it?

I live in the state of California and just bought a car from a friend. Unfortunately they allowed thier plates on the car to expire and I need to get my car tested for smog. Now what I would like to know is if any one has bought a car from a private party and needed to get templates before registering the vehicle, what they needed to bring in with them to the DMV. I have the title to the car and proof of insurance, also my drivers license. Do I need anything else in order to get templates. If you work for CA DMV or you know what I need, please let me know, Thanks for your time.

2. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A TEMP PLATE...U NEED DRIVERS LICENSE & CAR TITLE FOR THEM...THEN YOU GET THE REGISTRATION !!!
