I met with an accident.i am at fault.I do not have enough insurance to cover the other persons vehicle. His insurance company is going to pay the full claim from him.My insurance company will pay only the limits to his insurance comp. And the extra amount ,I have to pay is around 19000$ which I won't be able to pay.Any way I can handle this situation? Hi...Thanks for the answers. If the other insurance company is suing me before when they wil sue me?(months, days?)

- Yep, get a second job. They will come after you, and they will garnish your wages. So if you don't decide to get the job to pay it off with an agreed payment plan, they're going to get half of every paycheck you earn, until it's paid off. And I really, really hope you called your insurance company already, to raise your limits of coverage, so this doesn't happen again.
- Only you know if you should file for bankruptcy at this point. There is the chance that if the insurer of the other car feels that you can not pay, they will just let the matter drop.
- Yes. The other insurance company will give you a chance to make monthly payments until the debt is paid -- but ONE chance only. If you blow it they will come down on you very, very hard. You will find yourself facing a judge who will order you to liquidate your assets (including cars, computers and your home) and attach your income. My advice: get two jobs, pay it off and for heaven's sake, get more coverage!
- Bummer. His insurance company will sue you for the amount. If you can't pay, they will garnishee your wages until it is paid. Next time, carry sufficient insurance so you don't find yourself in this situation again.
- They'll take from your wages or you would have to work for the state to make up the money. Mark as lesson learned and hopefully you'll increase your limits. The court process is long and drawn out. It'll be a few months before you'll actually have to pay...
- Pray your insurance can get a signed release from the other carrier. If they do, you owe them nothing. If they can't, not only will your insurance not pay but you can be sued and if you lose THEN your insurance will pay the limits. They will not release limits unless the other carrier signs off on a release OR until a judgement is entered against you.
