Do I need to claim accident in company vehicle with my insurance company?
I want to get new insurance but I was in an accident in a company vehicle. I got the ticket, but the company's insurance paid the claim. My personal insurance wasn't affected. Do I have to tell my insurance co about the accident? With my current insurance I did. But my premiums are outrageous! I did, but this insurance co. wants to know what MY insurance paid. This was the company's insurance co.

- I don't belive you have to. I work for a transit company (city buses). Your question has come up many times at work. We were told that the company has insurance for a reason (not only because they have to). If you are in an accident with their vehicle, while working then their insurance has to take care of any costs. Also told, if we are asked to provide our personal insurance papers in such a case - REFUSE to provide them. The only thing the police need to see is (in Ontario anyways) is proof of ownership, proof of insurance for the said vehicle, CVOR and your drivers license.
- YES YOU DO, YOU GOT A TICKET AND THEY WILL FIND OUT SOONER OR LATER AND YOU CAN AND WILL BE BACK-CHARGED FOR THE DIFFERENCE BY NOT TELLING THE TRUTH.
- although the company's insurance paid the claim, YOU had the accident and YOU got the ticket. therefore, YOUR insurance will go up as YOU now have points on your record for the ticket and accident. you do not need to make a CLAIM on your policy, but your record reflects these points for the next 3 yrs and it will affect your personal policy premium.
- Yes, tell them, you need to be honest with the company. If they find out about a previous accident later on down the road, they could cancel your policy. Tell them exactly what you just told us, you were in an accident before in your company car. Your company's car insurance paid out X amount of dollars. Just because you did not claim under your own personal policy, doesnt mean it didn't happen. Sorry. Hope this helps
- Tell them you don't know what was paid out. You will have to tell them about the accident and the ticket, heck, they'll find out anyway as soon as they run your driving record. Even though the company policy paid out, the surcharge will apply to YOU. Sorry.
