Do I need to purchase any other insurance when renting a vehicle?
I am going to be renting a car soon. My mastercard offers insurance for the vehicle. Is there any other insurance I should buy from the car rental company? I don't want to get in an accident and discover that I am not fully covered.

- No, don't get additional insurance. It's a waste of money. Before you leave the lot in your rental, carefully inspect the car for dings and scratches, note them to the agent, and don't get into an accident. If you get into a serious one, you'll have bigger things to worry about anyway.
- it depends on reason for renting; i would call your insurance company and verify if you would be covered in a accident; if you only have liability, it will not cover the rental; if full coverage, then if in an accident, you would be out of pocket the deductible on your policy; the mastercard may only cover liability only or damage to auto only; you might want to contact them and verify if anything would be excluded or not covered; usually your own policy will transfer over in a rental; but in some cases, unless your car is down for repairs or servicing, could be excluded; a couple of phone calls and should answer and possibly save you some money
- Most automobile insurance companys will cover you in a rental car, if you have accident coverage with them. Check with them before you buy other insurance. If you do not have this coverage, you will need to purchase it elsewhere. Compare the mastercard prices against the ones offered by the car rental place. Hope this helps..
