- There's really a lot to selling commercial vehicle insurance. If this is something that appeals to you, I'd consider applying for a job at an insurance agency that specializes in trucks & fleet risks then learn the ropes. You'll need a P&C license in the states you do business in. After a few years, get some start up money and open your own agency. Nothing like having your own name on the door. Good luck.
- yeah If I were you I would try to get a job with an insurance agency or company. I am working with an insurance agency right now, and I have been working here for a year. This job can be very stressful at times, so take that in mind. I just got my GA insurance license about a week ago. You might be able to get on with an insurance company.
- Your best bet is to find either a Carrier (that's the company that insures) or a Agent/Broker (the people who sell insurance) to start at a lower level position. I started as a file clerk when I was 18 and I am making a good living now (26 y/o) as a property underwriter. I am not suggesting you start as a file clerk unless you are really young with no office experience. There are also plenty of support level positions (csr, data entry etc) in an agency but carriers will give you good benefits and learning oppotunities more than likely. Most companies will help you with insurance education when you work for them. They'll reimburse all money spent on education. Some might make it a part of your training. I would research good companies that are good to work for. Probably starting out with a carrier might be a better decision to learn the business. It might be hard to sell something you aren't very knowledgible about. Once you have good experience an agent will pick you up and pay for you to get your license to sell. The insurance industry is a good way to make a decent living and you can always make more money. Typically, at the beginning of your career you'll be more likely to move up faster and make more money faster on the company/carrier side. Once you know your stuff, the real money is in sales with an agent/broker. Any kind of office, college business or financial experience would be good on a resume. If you are proficient on Word, Excel and other programs used in the business world. Hope that helps.. check out ieatraining.com and aicpcu.org for education information in regards to the industry. Just a heads up.. auto insurance (whether it's commercial or personal) is about the bottom of the barrell of the P&C insurance world. I would set my sights higher personally. It's a good place to start though. Just don't get stuck!
- You need to get a license, and then you need to find an insurance company willing to let you sell their insurance. Progressive is pretty easy. So contact your state insurance department to find out where to buy the study materials, then you study, and pay to take the test, then you pay for the license. Then you find someone willing to let you sell their stuff. Insurance companies will do a credit check on you, and a backround check. They don't worry so much about resumes.
