How to make a Complaint against Tesco Insurance?

Basically, we had a car accident just before Christmas and the car was written off. The car was taken away by our Insurance Company and we reached an agreement just before New Year on the amount that we would receive for it. It has now been almost a month and we still haven't received a cheque from them despite numerous phonecalls. Each time they assure us that a cheque is on its way. To top it all off they have help0ed themselves to some £460 to pay for our insurance for the rest of the year (so that we cannot leave them) as well as the £250 excess. We have put in atleast 3 formal complaints about the service we are receiving and are still getting nowhere. Is there some sort of independant company that deals with these sort of complaints? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. File a complaint with the Insurance Commission Office in your area.
  2. Try http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/ Also send a wriiten letter of complaint to tesco insurance asking for a written reply. You will have proof of their excuses.
  3. Quit calling them. Start everything in written form so you will have proof of their replies. It's way too easy to ignore the "I said - they said" conversations. Contact the insurance commission and make a formal complaint once you have the written answer from them as to why they renewed insurance on a car you don't have, and why you have not been compensated for your losses. And next time (if there is one) remember they don't take the car until you have your settlement. That was your first mistake.
