Who does the music for the Direct Line Car Insurance ad? My guess would be Roger Waters or one of the other members of Pink Floyd because it sounds like a modified version of Eugene. Or maybe they should be suing for breach of copyright.
Which insurance companies will let you transfer m/bike ncb to a car policy? (Apart from Direct Line, who will) I'm thinking of returning to car driving. I have 4 years no claims bonus earned on motorbike policies. I now know that Direct Line will let me transfer that ncb to a car but are there any other insurance companies who will do that too? There must be some!
Dose direct line cover your car against vandalism? Dose direct line cover your car against vandalism if you have full comp' insurance?
Other than building insurance and car insurance is it worth having any other insurance? in this throw away culture we live in. I mean the access you have to pay is almost as much as going out and buying new? My husband ACCIDENTLY dropped our expensive TV and we have been only offered £279 pounds from Direct line insurance for a TV worth in access of £700 and that is after we fork out £150.00 access on the policy. Oh and I was made to feel like a criminal when I phoned up to make the claim. New laws about insurance fraud has made it necessary to leave no stone unturned. This is because of people making dishonest claims. The honest have to suffrer once again. Yes rip off Britain! What do you think have you had a similiar experience. Please tell.
Car Insurance with Motorcycle NCB? Hi all, I have been riding a motorbike for a few years and have a NCD with my bike insurer. I am wondering if anyone knows of any car insurance brokers that will take my motorbike NCB into consideration, as I have never driven a car before. I have been searching the net, and found that Direct Line insurance allows you to do this, but I'd like to shop around a bit more! Thanks in advance.
Direct line insurance.? Direct line !? Hello, on 10th of december i had my car stolen while doing a delivery for a takeaway and what happend was when i went to give the delivery to the house i left my car with the keys on ! and as soon as i turned it was gone and since then i called my insurance which to be direct line and they have asked me so many questions about and talked over the phone for like 1.30hrs and been sent letters to draw the crime scene to send back to them and still now my bmw is still in the garrage with one minor damage and they are not doing any thing about it . why is this. and i got told by one of my freinds that if the keys where on the car they will not do anything.
Do all car insurance companies want a deposit up front? I'm on a budget and was just wondering if they all ask for a lump sum up front. My last insurance with Direct Line wanted £120 first, then £65 every month. Do they all work like this? Thanks ok, thanks guys
how many breakdown calls can i have per year? im with direct line car insurance, is there a limit of breakdown call outs i can make, i've had to call out the service 4 times in about 4 months, ive been told, there is a limit of times you can call per year, i have a new battery in the boot, my car won't move, if they come out, would they install the new battery, and will they probably charge me for it, Thanks
Has your car insurance rocketed? Even with no claims? I am insured by Direct Line. My insurance last year was £290.00 for a Mistu Shogun Warrior 2.5TD 53 plate. I have more than five years no claims and have not had an accident. Ever! Touch Wood! They have sent me a renewal notice of £407.00. I am female, age 35 and have had my licence for more than 12 years. How does my insurance increase??? Anyone with similar details insuring the same car for less? With whom? I have already tried the gocompare and confused websites and no-one seems to be able to explain why!

Best way to get car insurance? I have heard that it may be better to get car insurance from a broker rather than online. I am 18, and I want to get my own policy. I am currently a named driver on my dads policy, as it is much cheaper to do it that way but I want to buy a car in my name and start earning my own ncb. I currently drive a Jaguar X Type and the insurance costs £2100 from Tesco (with my dad as the main driver). It would cost me about £3200 to insure it myself with Tesco. I want to get a smaller car that is easier on petrol and road tax, but I am having trouble finding a realistic quote. I am thinking about either a Smart Roadster coupe, a honda civic or ford fiesta. With Tesco, I dont get 1 year ncb as I would have done with Direct Line, and the insurance would be OK if I did. Its tempting me to lie on the insurance if I cant find a decent quote (under £2000), although I wouldn't want to. Can anyone offer me any advice on how to find cheaper car insurance or recommend any companies ?
Car Insurance quote question? When I try and get a quote for some cars on either Tesco or Direct line, it tells me they cant give me a quote online and il need to ring them. Also, the browser wont let me go back, so they make you close the window and type out another quote all over again! Why do they do this? The car I want to insure is a Nissan Navara D22. I am guessing that its because its a commercial vehicle and they want to check if il be using it for commercial use. I am 18 and have had my licence for a year, and I will be the named driver on the policy, my dad being the main driver who has over 30 years NCB! I managed to get a quote for a new Navara, not the D22 version and that was about £1990. How much do you think the D22 will be? Do you think they might class it as a van and not insure me because im under 21?

insurance for 2 people on one car is p+s*i*g me off? Zurich will not put my newly passed bird on my insurance. its a vectra group 10 ( i know its powerful) but as she is 23 and no driving experience they say no. I asked them if she could ring up direct line or someone and get her own insurance on my car and they said she cant as it's ilegal having 2 seperate policies on one car. So what can i do to insure her to drive my car. Bloody foreign call centres do my head in too. Useless 100%.

Need a temporary insurance for a second car - how to do that in the best way? Hi, I have just bought a new car but I have not sold the old one yet. I am entitled to 9 yrs no claim bonus but I cant use it on the new car as it used on the previous policy. What I have done is I cancelled the old policy (effective from Sunday) and will buy a new one for the new car from Monday morning so I will be able to use my NCB. Now I want to buy a cover the second (old) car for a while as well (third party only) but I'm hoping to sell it so I need a 1-month (or 2) policy. I've found Direct Line will be one of the best for my new car. They also match NCB for the second car if the first one is insured with them. If I take a pay-monthly plan from them and if I cancel after a month or two (once I've sold the old car) - will it work like that? Is the monthly instalment all I'll need to pay? I've just found that buying a new car and still having the old one is a real pain. I've checked so called short term policies but they are tooooo expensive (i.e. £120/month vs. £400/year) :/
Car insurance for write off .....? Any one know of any insurance companies in the UK that will insure a car that has been classed as a class c write off? I know direct line wont. Thanks in advance :)
Car Insurance query (involved in accident)? Yesterday I was involved in an accident, I was stopped on the motorway when a car was going too fast crashed right into the back of me, pushing me into the van in front, the recovery guy who picked my vehicle up said it prob will be written off due to its age. My questions are: a - I am an additional named driver on the policy with direct line, the policy holder in my mum, we didn't select for courtsey car, and my friend seems to think that the person who crashed into me, his insurance company should provide me with one? And if so how do I go about this? b - I think I may have whiplash, my neck is extremley sore and I can't look to right and left without turining my whole body, I am going to doctor's tomorrow, do I get compensation for this as it said online you can claim loss of earnings but at the moment I am unemployed. I spoke to Direct Line who advised providing the man admits it was his fault (I can't see him not as it clearly was) then my mum won't loose her no claims. Thanks Stay in Scotland Another note which I hope doesnt affect policy, the V5 is registered in my name as I was the one who purchased the car, I did with my friend who then drove it home for me as I hadn't passed at time I bought it (last year) my friend who is a lawyer said that it shouldnt matter though as anyone can be a registered keeper of a car and as I live at same address as my mum, my friend who was with me when I bought it is still on as 2nd named driver even though he never drives car now

Is it illegal to run 2 insurance policies on one vehicle? Is it illegal for me to have a car with full comprehensive cover from Direct Line - then for a friend to take out day insurance on my car for a couple of days without doing anything to my existing DL policy?
when is a good deal not a good deal on car insurance? Direct Line, that is a good question. I am certainly stumped. What do you guys think?
Can a Car Insurance company settle a claim on my behalf? UK question I had an accident last October where I was going straight on and a car turned right and crashed into the side of me. Direct Line wanted me to settle this on a 50/50 basis as there were no witnesses. I refused this several times both by phone and letter (I mean how can a car turn into me be my fault) Now I find out that Direct Line have settled it on a 50/50 basis against my say so. Are they allowed to do this. Should they have taken it to court if that was my request? I have not signed anything at all. They sent me my money and thats it. I havent even signed over the car to them or given them my MOT. Yet they still sent cheque. Im not sending anything or signibg anything on protest.

Motor insurance, their latest excuse for not dealing with your claim. What can I do? My sons insurer is Churchill, the third party (who will not admit liability even though pulled out of private driveway into the road and into my sons car) is Direct Line, both Royal Bank of Scotland companies. They are saying has to go to head office??? for sorting. Should this conflict of interest be allowed, and why should the paying customer be penalised.

Is it worth paying extra ? Hunting around for car insurance, and could just go with the cheapest on a money comparison list - but is that the best option ? For a bit (to a lot!) more some insurers include benefits such as courtesy car & free legal service etc. But is it worth paying the extra for something I might not use ? I notice Direct Line are refusing to be part of these lists because they say they are not accurate comparisons as cheapest price is not necessarily the best deal. Now I know why it's called confused.com! Can anyone help me ?
Whats better? Im lookin for insurance im kind of between Direct Line and Zurich any views on either? Zurich is cheaper but DL has the whole no claims thing for named drivers (im on my dads policy). What do u think? I never knew car insurance was so stressful lol
Insurance question? I have two policies with Direct Line as you get a discount for insuring your second car with them. My husband is down as a named driver on both of them as he also earns no claims bonus in his own right. In April 2007 he had an accident at work in a work vehicle, neither of our cars were involved. It wasn't his fault and he claimed off the third party's insurance for a back injury he sustained. The claim has now been settled but I have just received my renewal for one of my cars and I was wondering if I should have reported this to them or not. I don't want to have to pay anything extra but then again if I need to claim I don't want the worry of them finding out I didn't tell them and my insurance being void. Do I have to tell them or not?
Insuring a contract hire vehicle ? Thinking of getting a car on personal contract hire over 24 months, just wondering where and who are best to get fully comp insurance for this type of vehicle, I know Direct Line and Norwich union and quite a few others will not insure contract hire vehicles, anyone know who does ?
What sports cars can I have/insure? I'm 20 years old living in the UK. I currently drive a 1.6 Hyundai Coupe but I'm looking to get something else, still sporty. I have 3 years no-claims bonus to my name. I looked at Toyota Celicas, these seem to be OK on insurance if I go under my Dad's policy but they wont touch me under my own name. I was really interested in getting a Mitsubishi FTO, but there's no chance of insuring that even under my Dad's policy with Direct Line which is a shame because they are great cars! If anyone is in a similar situation and has overcome it some how then I want to hear from you. What cars and insurers are all the young guys in sports cars using? You see 17 year-olds in Scoobys -- how is this possible?? I have a bunch of money saved up so no solution is out of the question. Thanks!

Are you with Quinn Direct? Need help!? I'm 20 years old + bought my first car today. It's a little 1.4 Rover Metro.. I'm on Confused.com + Moneysupermarket.com trying to get the best insurance quote.. Both come up with Quinn Direct as the cheapest by over £100. However it doesn't give you details as to what the breakdown cover entails! There phone lines closed an hour ago + I'm eager to know. For anyone who's with Quinn, what does the breakdown cover actually offer? If it's not great, I have no problem getting seperate cover with the AA as it's only £12 a month.. But I don't want to pay out with them, if Quinn offer a good enough breakdown package. Basically my Dad said some companies he's seen, have such crap cover, they'll liturally come out, stay for 30 mins, if they can't fix it, they'll leave you. I don't want anything snazzy, but need to know I'll be towed to a garage if it's not fixable, or home. I've also opted in for windscreen cover.. The website isn't very informative!! Someone please help :o) I just had a look at what other people asked about Quinn + someone who claims to work for them, said that they'll only give you break down cover if the car is 15 years old or younger.. Mine is 14 years old.. Does this mean next year I wont be able to go with them?? Is this even true? Thanks guys.. Going to go with Quinn for 1 year (as next year my car will be 15 years old) + get AA cover as well :o)
Will I have to pay an excess or lose my no claims discount for claiming to repair a windscreen chip? I have a comprehensive policy with direct line. I'm 21 years old. Today, I was driving through a stretch of road with a temporary 20 limit because of lose stones. I was going about 20, but some prat in a lorry came the other way at 60 and a stone from him chipped my windscreen. I've also got another chip that was in the screen when I bought the car. Will I be able to get them fixed for free on my insurance or will there be some sort of penalty? I've seen adverts that say it will usually be covered and I wont even have to pay the windscreen excess. Will I be able to get more than one chip repaired? What's a deductible when it's at home? Do you mean excess? I think UK answers would be more relevant.
Do all USA Senators have problems with telling the truth? With economic troubles dominating the race, McCain opened the new line of criticism against Romney at his first event of the day in Fort Myers, Fla., and sought to shift the campaign back to his strength, national security, and away from Romney's, the economy. First, he slapped at Romney without naming him during a question-and-answer session with Floridians, saying: "Now, one of my opponents wanted to set a date for withdrawal that would have meant disaster." Minutes later to reporters, the Arizona senator was more direct: "If we surrender and wave a white flag, like Senator Clinton wants to do, and withdraw, as Governor Romney wanted to do, then there will be chaos, genocide, and the cost of American blood and treasure would be dramatically higher." Asked about the comment in Land O' Lakes, Fla., Romney bristled. "That's dishonest, to say that I have a specific date. That's simply wrong," he said. "That is not the case. I've never said that." The former Massachusetts governor added: "I know he's trying desperately to change the topic from the economy and trying to get back to Iraq, but to say something that's not accurate is simply wrong — and he knows better." Later in Sun City, Fla., McCain stuck to his assessment and said: "The apology is owed to the young men and women serving this nation in uniform." He said he was quoting Romney as favoring a "timetable" for withdrawal and argued that he was not misquoting Romney, saying, "Clearly, the impression was that he was ready to set a date for withdrawal." But Romney quotes circulated by McCain's campaign didn't show Romney making that exact comment — nor did aides back up McCain's earlier comment that suggested that Romney "wanted to set a date for withdrawal." In an interview with ABC News in 2007, Romney said: "There's no question that the president and (Iraqi) Prime Minister al-Maliki have to have a series of timetables and milestones that they speak about. But those shouldn't be for public pronouncement. You don't want the enemy to understand how long they have to wait in the weeds until you're going to be gone." While Romney has never set a public date for withdrawal, he has said that he agrees with Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, that U.S. troops could move to more of an oversight role in 2008. McCain, for his part, has been a staunch supporter of the Iraq war and advocated more troops on the ground for years before Bush embraced that position last year and ramped up the number of U.S. forces in Iraq. The buildup helped curb violence in Iraq, and McCain has not been shy about claiming credit for the strategy's success. Romney aides labeled McCain's charge "stunningly false," while McCain aides portrayed his Iraq comments as part of a broader effort in the coming days to question Romney's leadership, foreign policy experience and judgment. A former venture capitalist and business consultant, Romney has spent the past week arguing that he is the Republican best able to right a troubled economy, given his 25-year record in the private sector. He's argued that McCain, who has spent much of his life in the military and in Congress, doesn't have the qualifications necessary to lead the country out of a potential recession. McCain, in turn, has sought to beat back Romney on the issue by arguing that a president needs to be ready to lead and qualified on both national security and economics, and he offers both — despite having previously acknowledged that the economy is not his strongest suit. He also sought to rebut Romney's criticisms in an unusual fashion: he dispatched high-profile surrogates to talk with the press corps traveling with the former governor. Among them: former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and former Massachusetts Gov. Jane Swift. She boarded the Romney press bus to repeat similar criticisms to reporters. ____ Associated Press Writers Glen Johnson in St. Petersburg, Fla., and Libby Quaid in Fort Myers, Fla., contributed to this report. * Email Story * IM Story * Printable View RECOMMEND THIS STORY Recommend It: Average (196 votes) 2.7 stars » Recommended Stories Full Coverage: 2008 Presidential Election Off the Wires * Obama runs away with SC primary AP, 3 minutes ago * Racial divide could hurt Obama beyond SC AP, 4 minutes ago News Stories * Obama wins in South Carolina at The Chicago Tribune (reg. req'd), Jan 27 * Obama wins South Carolina at Politico, Jan 27 Opinion & Editorials * Obama's Big Win in SC a Referendum on Clintons The Nation via Yahoo! Can somebody help me summarize this? Sept. 28 (Bloomberg) -- A 12-year-old boy who received life- saving care through U.S.-subsidized health insurance will speak for Democrats tomorrow in their response to President George W. Bush's weekly radio address. Democrats chose Graeme Frost of Baltimore, instead of the lawmakers or governors who usually provide the party's Saturday- morning broadcast, to press what they see as a political advantage from Bush's vow to veto expansion of a kids' health- care program. Congress is sending to Bush legislation, given final approval yesterday, that would add $35 billion over five years to the State Children's Health Insurance Program. Bush, who calls the measure a step toward ``federalization'' of health care, will veto the legislation even though Republican lawmakers in close re-election campaigns will come under pressure if they stand by him, Bush press secretary Dana Perino said today. ``No doubt that it's difficult, especially politically'' when ``there are advertisements running in your district saying that you don't care about children, which is preposterous,'' Perino told reporters at the White House. ``They have to think about the principles here.'' The Senate passed the measure yesterday with enough Republican backing to override a veto; the House fell about two dozen votes short earlier in the week. The measure would more than double funding for the program, letting states enroll an additional 3.8 million uninsured kids. Democratic lawmakers say they will press Republicans to vote against the president on the override attempt. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, asked Bush today to change his mind and sign the measure. No `Second Thoughts' ``The president doesn't have second thoughts'' and will veto it, Perino said. ``I don't see any changing of the minds there.'' She said Bush proposed that the two sides work on a compromise after the veto. The health-insurance program, which applies to some 6 million kids who otherwise would not have coverage, is set to expire on Sept. 30. Congress passed legislation this week that included a stopgap measure to keep the program funded through the middle of November. ``No one's going to lose their coverage,'' Perino said. Bush has said he supports the program known as Schip, passed 10 years ago by a Republican-controlled Congress. Democrats are trying to expand coverage to middle-income children whose families can afford private insurance, the president said. $900 Hammer It's fine for Republicans to oppose big government and excessive spending, said Tony Fabrizio, a Republican pollster. ``But the problem is, what do you use to draw that line?'' he said. ``There're good things to use and there's bad things to use. A $900 hammer -- that's a great symbolic thing to draw on. A bridge-to-nowhere is a great symbolic thing to draw on. Denying children health care may not be the best symbolic rhetoric.'' Democrats are counting on Frost, who was hospitalized for traumatic brain injury after a 2004 car accident, to deliver the message that Bush is picking the wrong fight. ``My message is that the president needs to sign this bill because there are many, many kids who depend on this,'' Frost said today in a telephone interview. ``There are many kids who may not have survived without this.'' In a transcript of the radio addressed provided by Democrats, Frost said his hard-working parents ``always make sure my sister and I have everything we need, but the hospital bills were huge.'' Republicans for and against the Schip expansion debated yesterday on the Senate floor whether this should be the start of a fight over the future of health care in the U.S. `Broader Debate' ``Let us not jeopardize a successful, effective program for low-income children because we want to have a broader debate,'' said Senator Susan Collins of Maine. Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona said Congress was giving too much money to a program that originally was directed at low-income kids in families with incomes up to $41,300. Some states have expanded beyond that. New Jersey, the most generous, enrolls uninsured children in families earning up to $72,000. ``There's too much spending on a program that's been expanded beyond its focus,'' Kyl said.
Who still believes Global Warming is caused by man? Global warming ethics, pork and profits By Paul Driessen web posted February 12, 2007 The ink has barely dried on its new code of conduct, and already Congress is redefining ethics and pork to fit a global warming agenda. As Will Rogers observed, "with Congress, every time they make a joke, it's a law. And every time they make a law, it's a joke." However, life-altering, economy-wrecking climate bills are no laughing matter. That's why we need to recognize that the Kyoto Protocol and proposed "climate protection" laws will not stabilize the climate, even if CO2 is to blame. It's why we must acknowledge that money to be made, and power to be gained, from climate alarmism and symbolism is a major reason so many are getting on the climate "consensus" bandwagon. In accusing ExxonMobil of giving "more than $19 million since the late 1990s" to public policy institutes that promote climate holocaust "denial," Senate Inquisitors Olympia Snowe and Jay Rockefeller slandered both the donor and recipients. Moreover, this is less than half of what Pew Charitable Trusts and allied foundations contributed to the Pew Center on Climate Change alone over the same period. It's a pittance compared to what US environmental groups spent propagating climate chaos scare stories. It amounts to 30 cents for every $1,000 that the US, EU and UN spent since 1993 (some $80 billion all together) on global warming catastrophe research. And it ignores the fact that the Exxon grants also supported malaria control, Third World economic development and many other efforts. Aside from honest, if unfounded, fears of climate disasters, why might others support climate alarmism? Scientists who use climate change to explain environmental changes improve their chances of getting research grants from foundations, corporations – and US government programs that budget a whopping $6.5 billion for global warming in 2007. They also increase the likelihood of getting headlines and quotes in news stories: "Climate change threatens extinction of rare frogs, scientist says." Climate disaster skeptics face an uphill battle on grants, headlines and quotes. Politicians get to grandstand green credentials, cement relationships with activists who can support reelection campaigns and higher aspirations, magically transform $14-billion in alternative energy pork into ethical planetary protection, and promote policies that otherwise would raise serious eyebrows. Corporate actions that cause even one death are dealt with severely; but praise is heaped on federal mileage standards that cause hundreds of deaths, as cars are downsized and plasticized to save fuel and reduce emissions. High energy prices are denounced at congressional hearings, if due to market forces – but praised if imposed by government "to prevent climate change." Drilling in the Arctic or off our coasts is condemned, even to create jobs, tax revenues and enhanced security; but subsidizing wind power to generate 2% of our electricity is lauded, even if giant turbines despoil millions of acres and kill millions of birds. Alarmist rhetoric has also redefined corporate social responsibility, created the Climate Action Partnership and launched the emerging Enviro-Industrial Complex. Environmental activists have turned climate fears into successful fund-raising tools – and a brilliant strategy for achieving their dream of controlling global resource use, technological change and economic development, through laws, treaties, regulations and pressure campaigns. Recent developments promise to supercharge these efforts. Environmental Defense is collaborating with Morgan Stanley, to promote emission trading systems and other climate change initiatives – giving ED direct monetary and policy stakes in the banking, investment and political arenas, and in any carbon allowance or cap-and-trade programs Congress might enact. Other environmental groups, companies and Wall Street firms will no doubt follow their lead. ED designed and led the disingenuous campaign that persuaded many healthcare agencies to ban DDT, resulting in millions of deaths from malaria. Greenpeace, Sierra Club, Union of Concerned Scientists, ED and other groups still post deceitful claims about DDT on their websites, further delaying progress against this killer disease. By blaming climate change for malaria, they deflect criticism for their vile actions. Climate catastrophe claims enable activists to gain official advisory status with companies and governments on environmental issues. They also make it "ethical" for Rainforest Action Network and other pressure groups to oppose power generation in Third World countries, where few have access to electricity – and thereby keep communities perpetually impoverished. Meanwhile, Prince Charles gets lionized for appropriating 62 first class jetliner seats for his entourage of 20, on a trans-Atlantic trip to receive an environmental prize and lecture Americans on saving the Earth – because at least he didn't use his private jet. Companies in the CAP and EIC can develop and promote new product lines, using tax breaks, subsidies, legal mandates and regulatory provisions to gain competitive advantages. They get favorable coverage from the media, and kid-glove treatment from members of Congress who routinely pillory climate chaos skeptics. Some worry that this could become a license to further redefine corporate ethics, present self-interest as planet-saving altruism, and profit from questionable arrangements with environmental groups and Congress. Certainly, cap-and-trade rules will create valuable property rights and reward companies that reduce CO2 emissions, often by replacing old, inefficient, high-polluting plants that they want to retire anyway. DuPont and BP will get money for biofuels, GE for its portfolio of climate protection equipment, ADM for ethanol, Lehman Brothers for emission trading and other deals. Environmental activists will be able to influence corporate, state and federal policy, and rake in still more cash. Insurance companies can blame global warming for rate increases and coverage denials. Lobbying and deal-brokering will enter a new era. As Thenardier the innkeeper observed in Les Miserables, "When it comes to fixing prices, there are lots of tricks he knows. Jees, it's just amazing how it grows." Indeed, the opportunities to "game the system" will be limited only by one's "eco-magination." To determine the losers, look in the mirror. Activists and politicians are creating a Frankenstein climate monster on steroids. Were it real, we'd need to dismantle our economy and living standards to slay the beast. How else could we eliminate 80–90% of US and EU fossil fuel emissions by 2050, to stabilize carbon dioxide emissions and (theoretically) a climate that has always been anything but stable? Think lifestyles circa 1900, or earlier. Ponder the British environment minister's latest prescription: World War II rationing, no meat or cheese, restrictions on air travel, no veggies that aren't grown locally. France wants a new government agency that would single out, police and penalize countries that "abuse the Earth." Others want to put little solar panels on African huts, while kleptocratic dictators get millions of dollars for trading away their people's right to generate electricity and emit CO2. We should improve energy efficiency, reduce pollution, and develop new energy technologies. But when we demand immediate action to prevent exaggerated or imaginary crises, we stifle debate, railroad through programs that don't work, create enough pork to fill 50 Chicago stockyards, and impose horrendous unintended consequences on countless families. That is shortsighted and immoral.
